- JKMuir joined the design team to provide energy analysis and design support for upgrades to the Onondaga County’s Metropolitan Wastewater Treatment Plant (Metro WWTP) in New York. This project was initiated to quantify the energy performance of the existing ultraviolet (UV) disinfection system and assess potential energy and cost savings associated with proposed system alternatives.
- JKMuir conducted an on-site assessment of the existing system using portable power quality instruments to collect real-time power draw data from the operating UV disinfection banks and analyzed numerous upgrade scenarios using comprehensive energy usage projections, economic evaluations, and lifecycle cost comparisons.
- The resulting analysis demonstrated that the recommended alternative system had an estimated annual energy savings of approximately 1.3 million kilowatt-hours (kWh). These savings translate into annual operational cost reductions of more than $84,500, depending on the final system selected and the future price of energy.
